Reddit API provides access to posts, comments, subreddits, and user data through OAuth2 authentication.
Free tier limited to 100 queries per minute (QPM) for authenticated apps and 10 QPM for unauthenticated access. Commercial use requires paid tier at $0.24 per 1,000 API calls. Popular libraries include PRAW (Python), Snoowrap (JavaScript), JRAW (Java), and Reddit.NET (C#). Rate limits averaged over 10-minute windows. Access to NSFW content restricted since July 2023. The API covers content retrieval, voting, commenting, and messaging. Mod bots remain free.
Ideal for data analysis, sentiment tracking, and automated bots, but pricing changes in 2023 caused many third-party apps to shut down. Best suited for non-commercial research and personal projects.
